What is Irumudi?
“Iru” means two and “Mudi” means compartments. The Irumudi consists of two sections:
Front Compartment (Munmudi)
Contains offerings for Lord Ayyappa:

- Betel leaves and nuts
- Rice
- Offerings for pooja
Rear Compartment (Pinmudi)
Contains personal necessities:

Preparation Process
Step 1: Observe Mandala Vratham
The devotee should complete the prescribed period of spiritual discipline and purity.
Step 2: Guru Swamy Guidance
Irumudi preparation is traditionally conducted under the guidance of an experienced Guru Swamy.
Step 3: Fill the Ghee Coconut
A coconut is emptied and filled with pure ghee, representing the devotee's soul being offered to the Lord.
Step 4: Arrange Sacred Offerings
All pooja materials and offerings are carefully placed in the front compartment.
Step 5: Tie the Irumudi
The bundle is tied while chanting Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa and placed on the devotee's head.
